.NET Framework which is most commonly pronounced as
“dot net” is a software framework developed by Microsoft. It runs mostly on
Microsoft Windows. It combines a huge class library Known as Framework Class
Library (FCL). It also provides a feature known as Language Interoperability
side by side with several programming Languages, which means that each language
can use code written in other languages. Programs created in .NET operate in a
software environment rather than hardware environment called Common Language
Runtime. Both CLR and FCL together form the .NET Framework. Microsoft began
developing .NET Framework in the late 90’s under the name of N.G.W.S. which stands for Next Generation Windows Services but after
a decade the first beta version called .NET 1.0 was released.
